Australian Contemporary Opera Co: Danielle de Niese in Concert

8 August @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEST

Danielle de Niese shot to fame at the age of nine as the youngest-ever winner of Young Talent Time before making her Metropolitan Opera debut in New York at 19. It was her sparkling performance as Cleopatra in David McVicar’s Glyndebourne production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare that turned her into an international star in 2005. Her Melbourne recital includes an aria from Jimmy López’s opera Bel Canto, songs by Sir James MacMillan, the prologue from Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins, and Baroque music by Handel and Marcello. The second half includes songs by George Gershwin, Jerome Kern and John Denver.

Limelight Editor’s Choice

Superstar soprano Danielle de Niese shot to stardom in Australia at the age of 9 – the youngest-ever winner of the TV singing competition, Young Talent Time.‬

More than the most magnetic presence in modern classical music, Danielle is shredding the rulebook with her unique combination of artistic credibility and 21st century allure.

No other opera soprano has thrilled audiences worldwide from the Metropolitan Opera to Covent Garden, and performed on stage with LL Cool J, or sung in a Ridley Scott movie. Nor have they won an Emmy Award as a TV host at 16 or appeared on the cover of UK Tatler Magazine.

Aside from her exceptional career, magnetic stage presence and heavenly voice, Danielle is celebrated for connecting with audiences through her down-to-earth nature and infectious charm. There really isn’t anyone quite like her.

Danielle is joined on stage by leading Australian chamber musicians and ACOCO Rising Artist ensemble.
