Limelight, in collaboration with Cameron Lam, curator of the monthly Australian Art Music playlist, invites readers to explore the music of Australian composers.

The Guide to Australian Composers brings together one track from each composer, improviser or sound artist featured on Lam’s Australian Art Music playlist.

From Katy Abbott to Jonathan Zwartz, the A-Z guide offers a wide-ranging snapshot of Australian art music, from classical and jazz to sound art, improvisation and experimental works. Composers were invited, wherever possible, to put forward a piece previously featured in the playlist.

Following a public vote between 16 October–12 November, 2025, the top 25 tracks – Australia’s favourite art music – have been published in Limelight‘s 25 in 25 playlist.
