Black Swan State Theatre Company: Blue
6 June @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEST

Fresh from winning Brisbane’s 2024 Matilda Award for Best New Australian Work, Thomas Weatherall’s touching, poetic one-man play arrives in Perth. When Blue premiered in Sydney in 2023, it was performed by the playwright himself. Now proud Whadjuk Noongar actor Owen Hasluck takes on the monologue about family, loss, mental health and resilience, directed by acclaimed Noongar theatre-maker Ian Wilkes.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
When Mark moved out of home for the first time, his mum started writing him letters – just checking in, staying in touch, keeping a gentle hold on her son. Until one letter brings news no one wants to hear.
Today, alone in his apartment on a quiet, ordinary morning, Mark needs to try and make some sense of his young life. He needs to work out how to go on with the day, his studies, and the fragility of living. He needs us to hear his story, and the story of his family.
A tender monologue written by proud Kamilaroi man, and Heartbreak High star, Thomas Weatherall, Blue is a life-affirming deep dive into a young person’s journey through life, loss, mental wellbeing and early adulthood.
