Queensland Ballet: Dangerous Liaisons
11 October @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm AEST

Delve into the scandalous world of the Paris elite in Liam Scarlett’s vivid interpretation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel, Les Liaisons dangereuses.
An internationally-renowned choreographer celebrated for his vision and storytelling, Scarlett crafted this evocative ballet on Queensland Ballet for a world premiere in 2019. Set in 18th century France, the story follows the manipulative schemes of two aristocrats, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, as they engage in a dangerous game of seduction and revenge. Themes of power, love, and deception are explored in this scintillating story that has captivated audiences around the world for more than 200 years.
De Laclos’ epistolary novel spins a web of complex and entwined characters that will draw you into their decadent world. The novel has been adapted into numerous films, including the 1988 adaptation starring Glenn Close, John Malcovich and Michelle Pfeiffer, and Cruel Intentions (1999). With beautiful costumes and sets designed by Tracy Grant Lord, and a rich score featuring various works by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, this is a provocative ballet for mature audiences.
