The University of Melbourne: Draevon – Between Light and Darkness
6 May @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST

Transfigured String Trio presents Russian composer Alfred Schnitkke’s extraordinary dark and compelling string trio in its original format composed in 1985 just prior to him suffering a severe stroke that led into a coma. After being declared clinically dead on several occasions, he went on to survive and continued composing until his death in 1998. Schnittke counted Schubert’s music as one of his main influences from the Viennese school and this popular and sunny one movement Bb trio is considered a favourite among many of Schubert’s sublime works.
In between these two iconic pieces will be the world premiere of Australian Composer Angie Coffey’s original and scintillating composition “Draevon” which is inspired by a menacing part-dragon part-raven beast character in the Rapunzel’s Sister book series, by authors Belinda Lui and Zoe Reddaway.
