Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: Journey to the Americas
18 July @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEST

Peruvian conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya leads a program that opens with compatriot Jimmy López’s Fiesta! – commissioned for the Lima Philharmonic Society’s centenary in 2007. Joe Chindamo’s jazz-infused Concerto for Orchestra follows, after which German cellist Raphaela Gromes joins the MSO for Dvořák’s Cello Concerto. Completed in 1895, it expresses the Czech composer’s homesickness during his stay in New York. Gromes plays a 1740 Carlo Bergonzi cello (one of only three in the world), and she will give an additional Auslan-interpreted performance of Dvořák’s masterpiece on 21 July.
