Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival: Melanie Charles
26 October @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm AEDT

Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter-flutist Melanie Charles is set to stun Sydney audiences on Sunday, October 26th, in a headline performance for the 2025 Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival at Mary’s Underground.
Charles, renowned for her genre-bending style of jazz, soul and R&B, mixed with electronics, samples and hints of her Haitian roots, will perform with her Trio; Charles (vocals, flutes, effects), with Ignabu (drums, percussion) and Paul Wilson Bae (piano, key bass), the group promising a night of genre-defying, boundary-pushing sound, together celebrating Rev John Coltrane’s legacy with found footage, interviews, and samples from his contemporaries.
Charles’s unique style has been embraced by a range of heavy-hitting jazz, R&B, hip hop and pop artists, seeing her work with Gorillaz, The Roots, SZA, Jean Grae, Mach-Hommy, and Wynton Marsalis. Her television appearances include The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, SNL, Good Morning America, and HBO’s Vinyl.
