Theatre Works: Shadow Boxing
16 May @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST

Meet Flynn: a strong, rugged boxer whose world is shattered when he realises he is gay and is then brutally outed. Stripped of his dignity, Flynn fights back. ‘Shadow Boxing‘ by James Gaddas is a challenging solo work that explores identity; through examining masculinity, violence, sexuality and vulnerability. In a minimalistic boxing setting performer Samuel Addison embodies 15 characters, as Flynn shares his story. ‘Shadow Boxing’ dives deep into the raw, gritty world of masculinity. It challenges us to confront what drives men to violence and addresses their emotional turmoil. Flynn’s battle for self-acceptance hits hard, reflecting the struggles of any man dealing with modern masculinity.
With staggering male suicide rates and gender-based violence on the rise, ‘Shadow Boxing’ is a catalyst for crucial conversations about identity, respect, and change. This edgy, impactful work has been thrilling audiences with its tour de force physicality. Ultimately empowering, ‘Shadow Boxing’ is a visceral, emotional and intellectual roller coaster ride that leaves audiences breathless.
