Black Swan State Theatre Company: The Gospel According to Paul
23 July @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEST

Following sold-out seasons around the country, Jonathan Biggins brings his hilariously funny, astute solo show to Perth. Running 90 minutes, it traces the life and career of Paul Keating, the 24th Prime Minister of Australia. Written and performed by Biggins, under Aarne Neeme’s direction, The Gospel According to Paul examines the importance of Keating’s political career, while showcasing the renowned wit with which he famously skewered his opponents. Biggins puts in such an uncannily accurate performance, you almost forget it isn’t Keating himself on stage.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
Since its premiere in 2019, the smash hit comedy The Gospel According to Paul has taken the country by storm, selling out venues across the nation and attracting widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
Jonathan Biggins stars in this appropriately acerbic and always compelling portrait of Paul Keating, one of Australia’s most charismatic leaders. Full of intelligence and wit, The Gospel According to Paul is a funny, insightful, and poignant depiction of Keating, the man who — as he tells it — single-handedly shaped contemporary Australia.
Showcasing the former Prime Minister’s eviscerating wit, rich rhetoric, and ego the size of Everest, Biggins distils Keating into one hilarious and evocative night of theatre — the visionary, reformer, rabble-rouser, and Bankstown boy who quickly realised that to get things done in political life, it’s better to be needed than loved.
