Queensland’s Matilda Awards, the state’s celebration of performing arts excellence has announced the nominees for its upcoming ceremony, to be held at Brisbane Powerhouse on 24 February 2025.

The 37th annual Awards spotlight creative endeavour across 20 categories. Among productions and creatives in the running for recognition is the ambitious and culturally significant Straight From The Strait by Opera Queensland (six nominations; read the Limelight review), Ready or Not, a regional, independent work from Ainslee Palmer (five nominations), Scenes from a Yellow Peril by The Reaction Theory & BIPOC ARTS AUSTRALIA (five nominations) and 37, a co-production between Queensland Theatre and Melbourne Theatre Company.

Independent company Embodi Theatre’s premiere production AI May received four nominations, as did Dido and Aeneas (Opera Queensland in association with Circa), GRIMM (Shake & Stir Theatre Co, QPAC and Brisbane Festival), and Blue, written and performed by Thomas Weatherall in a Belvoir Street production presented by La Boite Theatre.
