How Delightful Theatre: Bev and Myrt and the Scrolling of Doom

30 January @ 7:10 pm - 8:10 pm AEDT

A sci-fi adventure comedy with she-roes d’un certain âge.

Bev (Jenny Lovell) and Myrt (Amanda Owen) are Melbourne’s senior she-roes: alien investigators who defend our city from extraterrestrial, supernatural, and other nasty threats. In this adventure, a brand-new mobile phone server is secretly absorbing people’s brains to create the ultimate artificial intelligence. Can our beloved duo stop the minds of millions from being wiped by The Feed?

Bev and Myrt and the Scrolling of Doom is a fun, comedic adventure that celebrates the importance of our unsung, elder queer heroes. They are the people who raised us, fought for us, and saved the day.

Writer and producer David Innes (he/him) has created a number of different genre pieces for both the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Adelaide Fringe Festival. These include adaptations of Dracula and Journey to the Centre of the Earth, as well as original plays such as A Bond Among Us and Mina vs the Martians. He is the producer of How Delightful Theatre, which produces work that is rollicking good fun, embraces genre and has a whole lot of heart.

Producer and dramaturg Dr Stayci Taylor (she/her) is a Senior Lecturer at RMIT and is an award-winning screenwriter, researcher, and creative practitioner. With a background in devised theatre and a PhD in screenwriting, Stayci has written for over a dozen broadcast series, including nine seasons of an award-winning bilingual soap, and co-created a primetime sitcom. Her scripts have been recognised at the Qantas Television Awards and the Scriptwriting Awards of New Zealand.

Director Cale Dennis (they/them) is an award-nominated multidisciplinary theatre maker whose practice spans directing, design, performance, stage management, and podcasting. A graduate of QUT’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama), with additional training from NIDA, Queensland Theatre, and Backbone Youth Arts, Cale brings a holistic, technically adept approach to live performance. Their directing work includes Set Me On Fire (Silent Sky Collective), nominated for two Anywhere Festival Awards.
