Sydney Fringe Festival: A Czar is Born
9 September 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm AEST

In this anarchic one-hour comedy about capitalism (and literature) run amok, a publishing magnate attempts to one-up his rival by putting on a book tour for a new bestseller – from the acclaimed and mysterious FRANCOIS DUCHAMP — despite Duchamp’s refusal to participate.
Chaos ensues with songs, ambassadors, identity theft and litigation in a musical comedy worthy of Mel Brooks. Written and directed by Laurence Rosier Staines (Griffin Award finalist 2023), A Czar is Born first premiered in 2010 and is back by both popular demand and financial necessity.
Featuring Courtney Bell, Rupert Bevan, Darcy Brown, Lucinda Jurd, Dominique Purdue & Luke Visentin with a four-piece band for three nights only at the Sydney Fringe’s Off-Broadway Hub: the Eternity Playhouse.
