Canberra International Music Festival: Alive
1 May @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm AEST
In his final year as Artistic Director, Roland Peelman has chosen to open the festival with William Barton, Persian tar player Hamed Sadeghi and Belgian jazz pianist Bram De Looze, as well as Lior and Nigel Westlake’s Compassion. Guitar virtuoso Pavel Ralev, violist Florian Peelman, France’s Trio Karénine and Dudok Quartet Amsterdam all make an appearance, as do Bach Akademie Australia and Luminescence Chamber Singers, in what promises to be an exciting week in the nation’s capital.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
Let us welcome the youngest generation of artists to the stage to start the Festival proper.
Emerging out of Canberra’s own music community, the Ellery String Quartet is going places, with daring and entertaining repertoire choices. Enter Holly Harrison and Caroline Shaw, two of the most prominent young women composers in Australia and the United States respectively.
Be prepared for flashes of virtuosity and more than a dash of youthful verve in the renditions by the Ellery Quartet, joined by Melbourne pianist Anna Gao, making her first appearance at the Festival.
