Ontroerend Goed: Are we not drawn onward to new erA
19 January @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm AEDT
Have a good look at the name of this play. It’s a palindrome, as is the show itself, which moves backwards and forwards (though to explain more would be a spoiler). Belgian theatre provocateurs Ontroerend Goed return to Australia with a call to action – a plea to turn back the clock if we are to avoid climate destruction. Reviewing it at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe, Time Out called it “a technically dazzling, emotionally devastating show about humanity’s point of no return”. Catch it at Sydney Festival and Perth Festival.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
Acclaimed Belgian theatre innovators Ontroerend Goed return to Sydney Festival with a captivating call to action that stands at the point where visual art, theatre, poetry and political protest meet.
Read the title. Now read it back-to-front. Are we not drawn onward to new erA reflects the this-way/that-way tensions of a world that seems to be racing forwards and hurtling backwards in the same moment. In our insatiable quest for progress, we have dramatically changed the planet we live on. Are our actions irreversible or can they be undone?
From the makers of the powerful World Without Us (Sydney Festival 2018), this jaw-dropping production is us at our critical moment: a world poised on the brink, a species at the crossroads of its own survival.
