Yasmina Reza’s award-winning three-hander ART premiered in Paris in 1994 and has since been seen around the world, taking London and New York by storm with a translation by Christopher Hampton. The sleek, intelligent, 90-minute comedy explores male behaviour and friendship. It spins around the purchase of a minimalist white-on-white painting by dermatologist Serge. His close friend Marc is outraged that Serge would spend so much money on an artwork he considers “a piece of shit”. Their mutual friend Yvan tries to calm them both down but gets caught in the middle. Lee Lewis directs a starry cast with Richard Roxburgh as Marc, Damon Herriman as Serge and Ryan Corr as Yvan. After the Sydney season, ART tours to Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Richard Roxburgh (Rake, The Correspondent, Elvis), Damon Herriman (Better Man, Mr Inbetween, Once Upon a Time in Hollywoodand Ryan Corr (House of the Dragon, Holding the Man, Kangaroostar together in the internationally award-winning play ART by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton. A razor-sharp comedy about friendship, ego and the chaos a single opinion can cause.

When one friend buys a ridiculously expensive painting, the others don’t just question his taste – they question everything.

Egos flare. Old wounds resurface. And a decades-long friendship begins to fracture.

With biting wit and pitch-perfect timing, ART explores how the smallest things, especially the unspoken ones, can spiral into something much bigger.

This 90-minute modern classic is clever, stylish and asks: can we truly see and still forgive the people we’ve known the longest?

Because everyone’s a critic. Especially your friends.
