Black Swan Theatre Company of WA: Barracking for the Umpire
27 April @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm AWST
Andrea Gibbs’ debut play was a big hit when it premiered at Black Swan in 2022. In a four-and-a-half-star review, Limelight described it as “hilarious and heartbreaking”. Doug Williams is the greatest footballer Donnybrook has ever seen. His wife Delveen has been by his side through head knock after head knock. The club wants to honour Doug with a lifetime achievement award, but this once-great player is starting to fumble the ball. Clare Watson’s production returns for an encore Perth season before heading off on a regional WA tour.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
After a best on ground performance in 2022, Barracking for the Umpire returns for an encore Perth season before hitting the road on a regional WA tour.
This family drama tackles head-on the fragility of the human body and the impacts of the great game on our players, our family, and our community.
Donnybrook Football Club is set to honour its greatest son – Doug Williams.
Hard as flint. Salt of the earth.
Wife, Delveen, by his side, riding every bump with him. Feeling every head knock.
All the kids are flying home to join the celebration.
But after years of the game he loves, the sure hands of Williams are starting to fumble the ball.
