SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre: Beam Me Up, Kate
1 May @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm ACST
SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre presents the original work Beam Me Up, Kate, a whirlwind story of science, hope, humour and love. Inspired by the 1977 Voyager Mission Golden Record – a time capsule, intended to communicate a story of our world to extraterrestrials – and the love story of astronomer Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan, it is a salve for the heart and mind, and perfect for the young and old alike.
It’s the year 2024. In the aftermath of a global pandemic, 11 Gen Zs gather in the middle of a field of wildflowers, gazing with hope toward interstellar space. Eleven beautiful misfits, whose hearts need mending.
Meanwhile, in the galaxy far, far away the Golden Record sent into space aboard 1977’s Voyager Mission has landed in the expert hands of celestial matchmakers H.O.P.E Inc. of the planet Makemake.
Through a series of incredibly unreal events each character discovers the strength they each have within their own hearts, and with a little help from the heart fixing experts, start rebuilding and beginning again.
