The Orchestra Project: Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis

7 April @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEST

Beethoven’s monumental setting of the Catholic Mass is performed in the majestic surrounds of Melbourne’s St Paul’s Cathedral to mark the 200th anniversary of the first performance in St Petersburg on 7 April, 1824. The work is one of classical music’s most insistent demands for peace in a world racked by violence and warfare. Free to attend, it is performed in its liturgical context with appropriate pauses between movements. The Orchestra Project and Vocal Soloists of Melbourne are conducted by Peter Tregear with soloists Lee Abrahmsen, Eleanor Greenwood, Robert Macfarlane and Christopher Hillier.

Limelight Editor’s Choice
