Zelman Symphony: Between two worlds
15 March @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEDT
We open 2026 with a concert exploring many worlds.
Is it the world of romanticism or modernism? Is it the old world or the new world? Or is it fact or fiction? You can choose.
Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy Overture immerses us in the passionate love, violent feuding and heart-wrenching despair of Shakespeare’s classic tale, Romeo and Juliet.
Prokofiev shows his contemplative, playful and occasionally spiky styles with his wonderful first violin concerto, to be performed by soloist Sophia Kirsanova, recently appointed Associate Principal Second Violin at Orchestra Victoria.
And to close, Dvořák’s well-loved Symphony No. 9 evokes North American spirituals while remaining deeply rooted in lively Czech musical traditions.
Enjoy a Sunday afternoon of great music!
