Australian National Academy of Music: Daniel You
12 June @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEST

“I’m very excited to present this recital. It opens with J.S. Bach’s Suite in C Minor, a work that takes us on a journey through a French Overture, fugue, and a series of dance movements. This suite utilises scordatura — an alternative tuning of the viola — allowing for the expression of harmonies and chords that are typically unplayable with standard tuning.
Next is the premiere of a new ANAM set work by Chris Williams, titled we have seen it rising. The piece, inspired by Kathy Jetn̄il-Kijiner’s poem tell them, ‘is animated by a growing sense of urgency, built from the tension between beauty and distress.’
The recital concludes with Rebecca Clarke’s Sonata for Viola and Piano — a passionate, virtuosic work, performed with pianist Aidan Boase.
It’s been both challenging and rewarding to expand my musical gestures and ideas through this program.” — Daniel You
