Melbourne Opera: Don Giovanni
26 April @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEST

Suzanne Chaundy directs a new production of Don Giovanni, Mozart and Da Ponte’s tale of lust laid low by supernatural forces. Christopher Tonkin headlines as the diabolical rake, with Henry Shaw as his wily servant Leporello and Eleanor Greenwood as Donna Elvira, the woman who can’t quite give him up. Lee Abrahmsen sings Donna Anna, the noblewoman upon whom the Don turns his lascivious gaze, with Henry Choo as her fiancé Don Ottavio and Eddie Muliaumaseali’i as her father, the Commendatore. Rebecca Rashleigh and Stephen Marsh complete the cast as manipulated rustics Zerlina and Masetto. Raymond Lawrence conducts.

The Rake Punished is the alternative title of this work and will be dramatically evident in this new production starring international baritone Christopher Tonkin as the Don, well-loved soprano Lee Abrahmsen as the wronged Donna Anna and rising star Henry Shaw as the long- suffering servant Leporello. Designed by Dale Ferguson and conducted by Raymond Lawrence, this new production of one of operas great masterpieces is not to be missed.
