State Opera South Australia: Flight
9 May @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm ACST

Jonathan Dove’s Flight is that rare bird, a genuinely popular contemporary opera. Based on the true story of a man with no paperwork living in an airport, this zany, yet occasionally bittersweet comedy follows a group of passengers and crew forced to hole up in a terminal building overnight. Mistaken identities, sexual misdemeanours and farcical attempts to conceal the truth follow hot on each other’s heels, all to the accompaniment of Dove’s sparkling score. Stephen Barlow directs a cast that includes Henry Choo, Samuel Dale Johnson, Nina Korbe, Fiona McArdle, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Ashlyn Tymms and countertenor James Laing as the mysterious refugee. Charlotte Corderoy conducts the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. (See our interview with Dove on page 49.)
