Sydney Mozart Society: Goldner String Quartet
27 March @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm AEDT
The Goldner String Quartet – an ensemble of international significance – open the Society’s 2024 season with some of our favourite masterpieces for string quartet.
2024 is the Quartet’s final concert season. It is a particularly significant moment for Sydney Mozart Society as the Goldners have appeared at least every second year, often opening the season, in the 30 years since the current foursome formed the quartet. This has been a much valued collaboration.
This farewell programme begins with one of Mozart’s early quartets – written in his early teens in Milan, whilst touring Italy with his papa. It is a cheerful melodious simple work that demonstrates the young composer’s creativity. Beethoven’s glorious Harp Quartet follows – lavish, rich and ending with a set of variations. The concert ends with the third of Schumann’s string quartets, Opus 41.
