GWB Entertainment: Groundhog Day the Musical
16 February @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm AEDT
Based on the 1993 film, Groundhog Day tells the uplifting story of arrogant Pittsburgh TV weatherman Phil Connors, who is forced to relive the same day again and again until he becomes a better man. Featuring music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Danny Rubin, who co-wrote the original screenplay, the show premiered at London’s Old Vic in 2016 and moved to Broadway in 2017. It now makes its Australian premiere in an exclusive Melbourne season. In a five-star review of the 2023 London revival, Time Out said, “[Minchin has] taken a much-loved but deeply cynical story and breathed all the emotional weight and heartbreak into it that a musical needs to soar.” Andy Karl reprises the role of Phil, which he played in London and New York, with Elise McCann as his producer Rita.

From the creatives behind Matilda the Musical and The Old Vic’s A Christmas Carol, developed and directed by Matthew Warchus, with a book by Danny Rubin and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, this brilliant new production is based on the classic movie and is a parable of love, hope and transformation.
