Ilbijerri Theatre Company: Gunawarra Re-Creation
9 July @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST

Murrun has returned to the watering hole. The same one Aunty Aggie used to take her to. The sacred one. There she meets her old friend Gunawarra. The Black Swan. Present and past collide. And there ensues their story. One of continuation of culture, creation, and stories of Blak women’s healing.
GUNAWARRA RE-CREATION is powerfully written by Taun Wurrung (Taungurung) playwright Isobel Morphy-Walsh and directed by award-winning Artistic Director Andrea James, a proud Yorta Yorta and Gunaikurnai woman, marking her directorial debut with ILBIJERRI Theatre Company in a fresh new season.
The play explores the continuation of culture through stories passed down between three-generations of women, adapting its narrative from the traditional Kulin Nations story of Gunawarra; the black swan, and how they came to have black feathers.
