Australian Musical Theatre Festival: It’s Only Life
15 May @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEST
This year’s festival promises 19 events over five days in all manner of venues from hotels and theatre foyers to winding alleyways and the Cataract Gorge. Artistic Director Tyran Parke’s wide-ranging program includes three inventively staged musicals: John Bucchino’s It’s Only Life, Marry Me A Little, which features material cut from Stephen Sondheim’s shows, and Maury Yeston’s Nine. Headline performers include Kerrie Anne Greenland, Josh Piterman, Patrice Tipoki and Queenie van de Zandt.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
In this Australian Musical Theatre Festival exclusive, John Bucchino visits Launceston for one-night-only to present It’s Only Life. A musical revue based on life, longing, fear, fulfillment, and finding personal growth. Bucchino’s compositions were described by the New York Times as having “finely made piano ballads [that] describe an urban life in which relationships come and go in cycles of yearning, fulfillment, heartbreak and healing.”
This story of love with “high expectations, high anxiety, and open hearts” (New York Times), features faces new to the Festival, as well as those returning, including Josh Piterman, Patrice Tipoki, Kerrie Anne Greenland, Queenie van de Zandt, Tyran Parke, and Tasmanian locals Nicole Farrow, Samantha Hammersley and more!
