West Australian Opera: La traviata
26 March @ 7:30 pm - 10:10 pm AWST

Verdi’s iconic tale of doomed love returns to Perth. The production, directed by Sarah Giles, one of Australia’s most thoughtful theatremakers, uses a lightly updated setting to delve deeply into the opera’s emotional heart. Lochlan Brown conducts the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and WASO Chorus, with Jessica Blunt as consumptive tart-with-a-heart Violetta Valéry. Paul O’Neill plays her lover Alfredo and James Clayton his father, who puts his foot down only to change his mind when it’s all too late.

From dazzling party scenes to moments of devastating stillness, Verdi’s music propels every beat of this tragedy, rich with emotion and unforgettable melody. Whether you’re a first timer at the opera or seasoned opera lover, La traviata is great story telling with great music that is both beautiful and timeless.
