Musica Viva Australia: Long Lost Loves (and Grey Suede Gloves)
10 March @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm AWST
Who is William Bolcom? Ask any singer, and they’ll tell you straight away. He’s a legend of American music, a Pulitzer prize-winning composer. He’s the man who wrote Amor, a pocket-sized cameo setting the sweet, sad and oh-so-true words of Arnold Weinstein.
Amor is a favourite encore, loved by performers and audiences alike. But what if, instead of being an afterthought, it became the catalyst for a drama?
Long Lost Loves (and Grey Suede Gloves) is the delicious answer to ‘what if?’, an evening of songs over the piano devised by writer and director Constantine Costi, pianist Michael Curtain and mezzo soprano Anna Dowsley. In their hands, William Bolcom and Arnold Weinstein’s Cabaret Songs becomes a playful and touching exploration of life as an artist, on stage and off. Hear classic songs such as Black Max, George and At the last lousy moments of love melded into a modern-day song cycle and performed by one of Australia’s most exciting young singers
