When Kate Mulvany and Anne-Louise Sarks adapted Euripides’ Greek tragedy Medea, they told it from the perspective of Medea’s two doomed children, seen playing in a contemporary bedroom. The extraordinary, award-winning play premiered at Belvoir in 2012 and was staged overseas with Sarks directing. Now, Daniel Evans directs it for Queensland Theatre. In a video interview, he says, “What is so moving or dangerous for the audience is that it becomes clearer and clearer that we’re actually watching the last 80 minutes of these two young people’s lives.”
