Coolamon Singers: Michael Haydn – Requiem in C Minor

12 July @ 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm AEST

Directed by Marco Bellasi, with Pianist, Ayesha Gough, Coolamon Singers performs Michael Haydn’s Requiem in C Minor with soloists, soprano Gaynor Morgan, mezzo-soprano Morgan Rosati, tenor Gregory Massingham, and bass Patrick Donnelly.

Unjustly considered a lesser composer than his brother, Joseph, Michael Haydn’s true greatness pervades the lyricism, grandeur, and complexity of this deeply personal music, resonating with grief at the loss of his infant daughter, and of his musical champion, Archbishop Sigismund. This monumental work deeply impressed young Mozart, who went on to study and echo Haydn’s compositions, reflecting both his mentor’s generosity and Mozart’s own gratitude and respect.

Australian composer and multi-modal artist Matt Ottley shares his work of symphonic stature, Et in Terra Pax for Choir and Piano, in a Queensland premiere. Melismatic melody and harmonies yearn for peace, unifying the world across time and place. Meditative miniatures by Bruckner, Mozart and Gorecki complete the program.
