Melbourne Recital Centre: Michael Rother & Friends Play the Music of Neu!
1 March @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT
In the pantheon of krautrock pioneers, Neu! stands as an icon of sonic exploration ever since trailblazing the 1970s music scene in Germany. And as Neu!, Michael Rother and the late-Klaus Dinger have influenced musical generations.
From his genesis as a member of Kraftwerk, to his work under the moniker Harmonia with Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius, Rother’s innovative approach and pursuit of musical innovation has inspired the likes of David Bowie, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, DEVO, Sonic Youth, Stereolab, U2, Radiohead, Primal Scream, and more.
Joined by long time collaborators Hans Bierman (La Düsseldorf), Franz Bargmann (ex Camera) and Vittoria Maccabruni, Michael Rother and Friends celebrate 50 years of Neu! and its extraordinary legacy.
In an electrifying fusion of krautrock, post-punk and avant-garde, the band conjures the legendary Neu! canon and recasts it in a transcendental and touching tribute to Klaus Dinger and ongoing recognition of Rother’s profound exploration and evolution of music-making.
In this unmissable experience, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall becomes a vessel for audiences to explore new sonic dimensions bursting with hypnotic rhythms and boundary-pushing experimentalism.
