Opera Australia: Mozart Requiem
4 October @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEST

Opera Australia presents a one-off performance of one of choral music’s more operatic blockbusters – Mozart’s Requiem, a work shrouded in mystery since it was left incomplete at the time of the composer’s death in 1791. A slightly scattergun concert begins with the OA Orchestra playing a handful of popular hits, including the Overture to The Marriage of Figaro and the Russian Dance from Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker, plus a pair of works designed to showcase OA Concertmaster Matthieu Arama.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
Mozart’s final gift to the world, his Requiem in D Minor, is the stuff of legends. A monumental Mass for the Dead, written as Mozart was facing his own demise, the story behind its creation is as famous as the music itself.
Experience one of the most influential pieces of music ever written as it was meant to be heard in this one-night-only concert featuring the Opera Australia Orchestra and Opera Australia Chorus. Feel the dramatic intensity of the fiery ‘Dies Irae’ and the heart-wrenching ‘Lacrimosa’, one of the most recognisable tunes Mozart ever wrote.
In addition to Mozart’s Requiem, the Opera Australia Orchestra will dazzle with a series of orchestral works, including the famous overture from The Marriage of Figaro, Tchaikovsky’s energetic Russian Dance, and pieces that showcase the virtuosity of our acclaimed Concertmaster, violinist Matthieu Arama.
