WA Youth Theatre Company: Scenes from the Climate Era

20 February 2026 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEDT

Caroline Guiela Nguyen’s lavishly staged, three-hour drama Lacrima moves from Sydney Festival to Perth where it is a highlight of Anna Reece’s festival program. Inventive Western Australian collective The Last Great Hunt gives a live performance of a faux foreign film Lé Nør [the rain], while WA Youth Theatre Company presents Scenes from the Climate Era, which unfolds across 66 short scenes, blending the comic, tragic and surreal. Other theatre shows include Jaha Koo’s Haribo Kimchi, a moving reflection on migration and home, and Meow Meow’s bold reimagining of The Red Shoes. Meanwhile, Broadway classics meet ‘yacht rock’ in Marney McQueen’s new cabaret show Songs About Boats!

Limelight Editor’s Choice

From shifting coastlines to rising voices, Scenes from the Climate Era is a kaleidoscope of 66 striking snapshots. From the comic to the tragic and everything in between, each scene captures a moment of life on a planet in flux. It’s a fast-paced, truth-packed production that doesn’t lecture – it listens, reflects and looks forward.

For the first time, David Finnigan’s globally-acclaimed climate work is being reimagined by the next generation. The West Australian Youth Theatre Company cast breathe poignancy into this global crisis that they have inherited and are so often told is their problem to solve.

Scenes from the Climate Era is a play about now – about the choices we made yesterday and the difficult beauty of tomorrow. Invigoratingly honest and unexpectedly funny, it dives headfirst into the climate conversation with urgency, heart and the creative spark only youth can bring to one of the most urgent conversations of our time.
