American Australian Association: The Laramie Project
14 May @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm AEST
In an Australian first, New York’s Tectonic Theater Project together with the American Australian Association present a staged reading of The Laramie Project in Sydney.
The Laramie Project is the true story of the aftermath following the 1998 murder of 21-year-old Matthew Shepard, that catalysed revolutionary LGBTQIA+ legislative change in America.
On the 25th anniversary of the development of the play and in commemoration of International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, this collaboration between nations and generations holds a mirror to how far LGBTQIA+ rights have come, and how far they have to go.
An all-star Australian cast including Tony Award-nominated Tony Sheldon, Casey Donovan, Benjamin Law, Zindzi Okenyo and Nicholas Brown unite with Dennis Shepard – father of the late Matthew – who will deliver his powerful courtroom speech from the 1999 trial.
