Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre: The Robbie Mann Quartet
13 September @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm AEST
Join Robbie Mann, one of Australia’s only masters of stride piano style, for an evening in the company of the late, great Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller.
A musical force of nature, Fats Waller was a pianist, composer, showman and raconteur whose accomplishments shaped jazz both within his brief lifespan and for decades to come.
Robbie will be joined by worldly Australian jazz veterans Geoff Allen on drums and reedsman Paul Furniss, as well as the versatile Sam Dobson on bass.
Robbie and his quartet will pay tribute to the legend with a night of explosive hot jazz, sultry swing and sophisticated lyricism that will take you back to the rowdy underbelly of prohibition era New York. Expect selections from Fats’ most famous songs and his unique and virtuosic piano solos, interspersed with colourful stories from Fats’ remarkable life.
