The Woman in Black is the second longest-running play in West End history, after Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. Based on Susan Hill’s gothic horror novel, it was adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt. The cleverly conceived play-within-a-play is performed by two actors. As a young man, lawyer Arthur Kripps was sent to oversee the funeral of a Mrs Alice Drablow, who lived in an eerie, isolated house in the north of England. Years later, he hires an actor to help him tell his ghostly story and exorcise the fear that still grips him. Of course, there’s a twist. John Waters and Daniel MacPherson star in this Australian tour, which runs until July.
