Patricia Alessi: Time Changes: Vinyl Art Workshop at Joondalup Festival 2026
21 March @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm AEDT

Here’s a workshop that hits all the right notes: sustainable art-making, musical inspiration, and a one-of-a-kind creation you’ll actually use every day. Welcome to Time & Tempo, where we’re transforming vintage vinyl records into working clocks that are equal parts art piece and functional timekeeper.
Created by the ingenious team at Curate – Perth’s champions of sustainable arts – this workshop combines our love of recycling with our adoration of music into an experience you won’t find anywhere else. You’ll receive a vinyl LP (rescued from the donation bin and given glorious new life) plus paint pens and all the clock mechanism pieces you need. Then comes the fun part: designing your LP with whatever inspires you. Abstract patterns, musical lyrics, homages to your favourite artists, geometric designs, personal memories connected to music – this is your canvas, your vision, your time to create.
Taking place alongside the gallery’s A Day with David photography exhibition, this workshop celebrates themes of transformation, creativity and artistic evolution. While you work on your unique timepiece, enjoy a curated playlist of David Bowie tunes that echoes the exhibition’s exploration of artistic authenticity and creative reinvention. Plus, light refreshments and snacks are included to keep your creative energy flowing!
Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or you’ve never picked up a paint pen before, our facilitators will guide you through the process with warmth and encouragement. Work at your own pace, chat with fellow creators, and watch your functional artwork come to life. By the end of the session, you’ll walk away with a truly unique timepiece that tells a story: rescued vinyl, creative vision, and the magic of making something beautiful from something discarded.
Perfect for date nights, creative catch-ups with friends, solo creative time, or treating yourself to a few hours of mindful making. All materials provided – just bring your creativity and your love of sustainable art!
