Sydney Opera House: Trio Karénine
5 May @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEST
Named for Tolstoy’s iconic heroine Anna Karenina, French ensemble Trio Karénine formed in 2009 and went on to win the top prize at the ARD International Music Competition in 2013. With plenty more prizes, international tours and critically acclaimed recording projects under its belt, the ensemble makes it’s Sydney Opera House debut with a stunning program French and Spanish masterpieces.
Camille Saint-Saëns’ breezy Piano Trio No. 1 was inspired by the French composer’s holiday in the Pyrenees mountains, while Spanish composer Jaoquín Turina studied in Paris and you can hear the influence of both worlds in his own first Piano Trio. In Maurice Ravel’s Piano Trio in A minor, which brings the program to a close, the French composer explores his own Basque heritage.
