Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company: Two Ways to Dance
9 November @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEDT

Two Ways to Dance is a striking hybrid performance blending live Ukrainian folk dance with its cinematic reimagining. Rooted in the Australian Ukrainian community, the show explores how dance holds cultural memory across distance, diaspora, and digital space. It reflects the evolving presence of Ukrainian culture in Australia through a fusion of live choreography and film.
Part stage performance, part film installation, Two Ways to Dance blurs the boundaries between tradition and experimentation, culture and politics. It captures the duality of life in diaspora through layered contrasts: dance on stage / dance on film, dance for cultural expression and preservation / dance as a political tool and drones used to preserve culture / drones used to destroy it.
The work explores: Migration and cultural survival, the role of media in shaping memory, and the power of art in times of war and displacement.
