At a ceremony hosted last night (Thursday 24 October) at Melbourne’s Federation Square, the winners of the 2024 Music Victoria Awards were announced.

“It is inspiring to reflect on a Music Victoria Awards’ impact on our artists, venues, and festivals” said Simone Schinkel, Music Victoria’s CEO. “Previous winners have often shared how these honours elevate visibility and recognition, and this year’s nominees and recipients are worthy of it all.

Jazz saxophonist Cheryl Durongpisitkul was named Best Musician, as voted by industry members. 

A Freedman Fellowship-nominated artist, Durongpisitkul was awarded Work of the Year in Jazz at the 2024 Art Music Awards for her piece A Pinky Promise. She has been commissioned by the Monash Art Ensemble and Australian Art Orchestra, and was awarded the 2023 Take Note fellowship at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. She’s also a longstanding member of the group Koi Kingdom, which released its eponymous third album in May.
