Melbourne Theatre Company has appointed its Artistic Director Anne-Louise Sarks as sole Chief Executive Officer, marking a shift away from the company’s dual leadership model.

The move follows an external review of MTC’s leadership structure, with the company opting to consolidate under a single CEO to better align its creative vision, strategy and operations.

Sarks, who has shared the top role with Executive Director Sally Noonan since 2021, was appointed following an internal application process. Noonan chose not to apply for the new position and will shortly conclude her tenure with the company.

During her time as Artistic Director and Co-CEO, Sarks has overseen a string of artistic and commercial successes, including My Brilliant Career; A Streetcar Named Desire; a revival of David Williamson’s The Removalists; and Rebecca, which she also adapted for the stage.
