Ensemble Offspring (EO) has announced the four composers participating in its Hatched Composer Intensive in 2024.

Klearhos Murphy, Alexander Maltas, Courtney Cousins and Katia Geha will participate in a week-long intensive in November at The Church in Alexandria to develop and workshop a brand new work.

Each work will receive its world premiere at the end of the week at EO’s Future Classics concert on 23 November at in the Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room, alongside new works by Holly Harrison and Kirsten Milenko.

Preceding the intensive, the composers will also participate in mentorship and information sessions with the program’s lead composition mentor, Jack Symonds, and will be given the opportunity to have two online sessions with any of a collection of  international mentors including Brett Dean, Lise Illean, Cathy Milliken, Gemma Peacocke and Seung-Won Oh.

For the first time, EO will select one of the participants to receive a follow-up commission with the ensemble with a fee of $4,000.
