Born in 1902, Cuénod made his stage debut in 1928 and went on to enjoy an illustrious stage and recording career spanning more than six decades, concluding with his final performance in 1994. He performed a particularly broad repertoire, and was well known for his performances as Basilio in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, the Astrologer in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel, and Sellem in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress.
