Libby Christie, until recently the Executive Director of The Australian Ballet, a role she held for almost a decade, has died.

While at the helm of the company, she helped steer the organisation through the pandemic. Reflecting on Christie’s departure from the leadership role at the launch of the Australian Ballet’s 2023 season, Artistic Director David Hallberg commented, “Libby’s exemplary leadership qualities came to the fore as she steered the company through the stress and upheavals of our time away from the stage with immense professionalism, energy, and resolve and helped to ensure we would all be standing here today.”

Before her time at the Australian Ballet, Christie acted as CEO of the Australia Council from December 2012 to May 2013. She was Executive Director of Arts Funding at the Australia Council for the Arts from 2009 to 2012.

From 2003 to 2009 Libby was Managing Director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that appointment, she had served in senior management roles in the technology and telecommunications sector.
