Queensland theatre’s flagship awards have unveiled their 2025 nominees, with Queensland Theatre Company emerging as a standout as the Matilda Awards prepare for their 38th year. The ceremony will be held in the QPAC Playhouse on Monday 2 March 2026.
The shortlist reflects what organisers describe as a particularly strong year for Queensland theatre, marked by diversity, innovation and a flourishing independent and regional sector.

Queensland Theatre Company leads the field with seven nominations for A Few Good Men, Aaron Sorkin’s court martial drama centred on two marines charged with murdering a fellow soldier at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. Among its nominations are one for actor Courtney Cavallaro (Best performance in a Leading Role) and another for Mike Willmett (Composition/Sound Design).
La Boîte Theatre Company’s Congratulations, Get Rich! and Belloo Creative’s docudrama Back to Bilo each received five nominations.
