The popular musician and educator is set to follow in Paul Stanhope’s footsteps from 2015.
Richard Gill has been announced as Sydney Chamber Choir’s new Musical Director, taking over the reins from Paul Stanhope who has occupied the role since 2006.
“I’m delighted to step into such an important role with a choir that I love and admire,” said Gill. “Sydney Chamber Choir has a great history of performing luminous renaissance masterpieces along with the unbridled energy of contemporary Australian works. Their musicianship is outstanding and their sound sublime.”
Richard Gill is no stranger to Sydney Chamber Choir. He has been a patron to the choir since 2009 and will be a guest conductor of their first concert for this year on April 12. The concert will see the choir perform Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem with the Metropolitan Orchestra. The program also features works by Stravinsky and Palestrina, as well as a world premiere of Australian composer Mary Finsterer’s new work Kyrie.
