Australian star Sarah Snook’s dazzling solo turn in The Picture of Dorian Gray earned her Best Performance by a Leading Actress at the 78th Tony Awards, in a strong night for a production created by the Sydney Theatre Company. But it was the Korean musical Maybe Happy Ending that dominated Broadway’s biggest night.
The 78th Tony Awards, held overnight at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, saw Kip Williams’ audacious one-woman adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic novel score two trophies: Best Actress in a Play for Snook and Best Costume Design for Marg Horwell.
Snook’s virtuosic performance – in which she plays all 26 characters – had previously earned her an Olivier Award on London’s West End and drew critical acclaim on Broadway.
