The South Australian government has launched its cultural policy, one designed to foster artistic expression and promote the long-term sustainability In the state’s arts sector. It marks the first comprehensive cultural framework in over a decade.

State Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Strong arts, cultural and creative industries benefit us all, from building vibrant communities across the state, shaping our cultural identity, contributing to a dynamic, complex economy, and encouraging a cohesive society, where people feel connection and belonging.”

The policy, which drew on the input of more than 2,000 community members, artists, creative practitioners, cultural leaders, arts workers, business owners, researchers, educators and government agencies, will introduces a suite of new funding opportunities and initiatives aimed at delivering tangible outcomes for South Australia’s arts and cultural scene. These include expanded grant programs for independent artists and collectives, incentives for cross-sector collaboration, and partnerships with private industry to bolster financial sustainability.

A major focus is placed on the role of First Nations artists and cultural organisations, with dedicated funding to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytelling and heritage preservation. The government has committed to strengthening partnerships...
