Now in its 18th edition, the Utzon Music series invites leading musicians from around the world to the Sydney Opera House’s intimate recital venue, the Utzon Room. Named after the architect Jørn Utzon, it is the only performance space designed entirely to his specifications.
Australia’s recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey has been selected as the new incoming curator for the 2025 season, succeeding 2024 curator Casey Green. Familiar with being both audience member and performer in the Utzon Room, Lacey describes Utzon’s design as “the ideal listening space of an artist” where light, water and music are closely intertwined.
“Not all musicians like being really close to their audience. Others completely come alive in that context.”

Lacey draws from her own extensive classical training in Australia and Europe and insider knowledge from decades of international touring as a soloist, creator and recording artist. Her extensive curatorial experience has been sought out by UKARIA Cultural Centre, Musica Viva and Melbourne Recital Centre among other venues and festivals.
