For many, Disney songs are more than just melodies; they are the soundtracks to our lives, each note stirring up nostalgia and emotion. But have you ever wondered which Disney song reigns supreme?

Academic and musicologist Robert Komaniecki of the University of British Columbia did just that and decided to rank 114 Disney songs using subjective criteria and rigorous methodology to quantify the magic in each tune.

Using a multifaceted scoring system, Komaniecki assessed each song across five categories: Lyrics, Music, Vocals, Plot Integration and Subjective Enjoyment. Each category was scored on a scale from 0 – 100, allowing songs to earn a total score out of 500.

Komaniecki’s Lyrics category evaluated the quality of the song’s text, taking into account rhyme structure, novelty, message, tonal cohesion and dramatic arc.

The Music category examined non-textual elements such as harmony, melody, rhythm and form.

The quality of the vocals was judged not only on the singer’s technical skill but also on their ability to convey the intended character and emotion.
